HONOLULU (KHON2) -- Renovations are ongoing for the Capitol reflection pools, and the public now has the chance to contribute to the project’s future.
The $6 million waterproofing initiative for the pools is halfway completed.
The state aims to replace the traditional water-filled pools with a waterless solution, reducing the costs associated with maintaining thousands of gallons of fresh water.
Artist Solomon Enos has been selected to create an artwork that will serve as an alternative to the water feature.
During an appearance on Wake Up Today, Enos shared how community members can engage in the design process.
“We’re going to open up the design and give everyone little brushes so that aunty, uncle, mom, dad, keiki, and kupuna can all be involved in accenting the design,” Enos said. “This way, when we turn it into a massive glass installation, folks can return and say, ‘Oh, that’s my mark; I think that’s my mark.’”
Public participation opportunities will begin on the first Friday of next month. For more details, visit the SFCA page.
