HONOLULU (KHON2) -- Maui officials announced that Crater Road in Maui will be closed from 6 a.m., Saturday until 6 p.m. on August 3 due to safety concerns related to a nearby active fire.
The fire in Upper Kula is currently 80 percent contained.
The County of Maui Department of Fire and Public Safety stated that the closure, which will last a week, is necessary to ensure the road can be safely reopened.
Similarly, on July 10, portions of Crater Road were closed due to a fire. It was reopened two weeks later.
