HONOLULU (KHON2) -- A serious motorcycle crash early Saturday morning has left a 21-year-old male rider in critical condition.
The collision occurred around 4:38 A.M. on Kamehameha Highway, just north of Paalaa Uka Pupukea Road.
According to the Honolulu Police Department’s Traffic Division, the young motorcycle operator was heading southbound when he crossed over the center line and collided with a pickup truck driven by a 57-year-old man traveling northbound.
The impact ejected the motorcycle rider onto the grass shoulder.
Emergency Medical Services transported him to a nearby hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
The pickup truck driver was unharmed and stayed at the scene to cooperate with authorities.
Police reported that the motorcycle operator was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
Initial investigations suggest that speed may have played a role in the crash, but it is still unclear if drugs or alcohol were factors.
The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
