John John Florence eliminated at Olympic surfing

John John Florence's hopes of winning Olympic gold will have to wait another four years.

The Haleiwa native was eliminated by Australia's Jack Robinson in the third round, scoring a total of 9.07. Robinson toppled Florence with a 13.94.

Florence, the top-ranked surfer in the World Surf League, also competed at surfing's Olympic debut in the 2020 Tokyo Games, although an ACL injury hindered his ability and he was eliminated in the second round.

The third round of the women's surfing competition, featuring Carissa Moore, takes place on Tuesday.
