HONOLULU (KHON2) -- A new reign begins soon as a new queen (mōʻī wahine), king (mōʻī kane), prince (kamaliʻi kane) and princess (kamaliʻi wahine) will receive a transfer of rule from the 2023 court.
The Royal Court of the Aloha Festivals will begin their reign at the Royal Court Investiture and Opening Ceremony on Sept. 7.
A variety of positions, including the coveted queen and king are open for applications for the 2024 court.
Applicant qualifications vary by position but all must be Hawaii residents of native Hawaiian ancestry and be available for Royal Court appearances.
"The royal court will have a significant presence during Aloha Festivals’ various events throughout the month of September and their reign will extend until the succession of the next royal court in 2025."
Those selected to the court positions of prince and princess will receive a post-high school education scholarship.
Aloha Festivals is a celebration of Hawaiian culture as displayed through music, dance and cuisine. Notable events include the Investiture Ceremony, the Waikiki Hoʻolauleʻa and the always colorful floral parade.
Those who are interested can apply on the Aloha Festivalsʻ website. The deadline to apply is Aug. 15.
