HONOLULU (KHON2) -- With the back-to-school season around closing in and keiki spending their time riding bicycles, scooters and more, parents should ensure their keiki are wearing properly fitted helmets.

Different helmets are made for different recreational activities and can help reduce severe head injuries and/or death.

During a fall, the helmet absorbs the energy from the impact rather than just the head or the brain.

To select the proper helmet for an activity, the first step is to measure your keiki from around the head, straight around the back.

The helmet should sit two fingers above the eyebrows with the "v" strap sitting in front of the earlobe.

Once clipped in, the parent can then adjust
