HONOLULU (KHON2) -- The need for food assistance has risen by over 65 percent since Augustʻs wildfires, according to the Maui Food Bank. To address the demand, a new food distribution center has been opened in West Maui.
The Maui Food Bank and American Red Cross partnered to launch "Da Market," which will offer fresh, local produce, nonperishable items and essential household goods.
“Da Market represents a significant step in addressing the food insecurity that many families are facing in the aftermath of the fires. Together, we are committed to providing the support and resources our community needs to rebuild and recover,” Charity Hartman of the Maui Food Bank said in a news release.
Families can receive these goods at no cost.
The facility, located at 48 Ulupono Street, operates Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
