HONOLULU (KHON2) -- Honolulu Board of Water Supply crews responded to an early morning 16-inch water main break at the intersection of Alakawa St and Nimitz Hwy.
According to the BWS's social media, the investigation began around 6:30 a.m. on Saturday. About an hour later, crews shut down all westbound lanes of Nimitz Hwy as they worked on repairs.
All westbound lanes remained closed through the remainder of the morning and most of the afternoon.
Just before 4 p.m., one westbound lane was reopened.
At 4:41 p.m., BWS announced that two eastbound lanes and one westbound lane of Nimitz Hwy were open by Alakawa St.
Crews will continue working on the water main break on Monday. The BWS said there would be no contraflow on the highway.
Main break repairs will continue until further notice. Drivers are advised to expect traffic delays and use alternate routes.
