HONOLULU (KHON2) -- Oahu west side drivers had a long commute into town on Wednesday morning after officials responded to a multiple-vehicle crash in the zipper lane just after Kaahumanu Overpass.
The Hawaii Department of Transportation announced the closure just before 6 a.m. to allow first responders to access the crash.
Honolulu Emergency Medical Service said six individuals were involved in the crash:
- 65-year-old male in stable condition
- 25-year-old male in serious condition
- 21-year-old female in serious condition
- 55-year-old male in stable condition
- 55-year-old female in stable condition
- 65-year-old female in stable condition
All six patients were transported by two ambulance crews for various injuries.
At about 7:20 a.m., the crash was cleared and all entrances to the zipper lane were reopened.
To help clear the remaining backlog, the zipper lane closing time was extended to 9:30 a.m., per HDOT.
