HONOLULU (KHON2) -- Breezy trade winds will ease from Thursday to Saturday as a high pressure system weakens. Rain chances on windward areas will stay low until Thursday night, then increase slightly through the weekend as an upper disturbance moves in.

Showers, if any, will mainly occur in windward and mauka areas during the night and early morning.

By late Thursday, the high will weaken, and a weak upper-level disturbance will move north of Kauai. This will cause trade winds to decrease to light to moderate levels. Increased moisture could lead to more windward showers over the weekend. A few showers may also occur in dry leeward areas in the afternoon due to sea breezes.

Trade winds are expected to strengthen again by the end of the weekend and continue through the first half of next week as high pressure builds to the north.
