HONOLULU (KHON2) -- One year after the devastating Lahaina fire, officials have yet to release the cause-and-origin reports, despite persistent requests from KHON2 News.
The Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) has been supporting the county's investigation, but the county is awaiting ATF's final report to complete its own.
The ATF informed KHON2 that their report remains unfinished.
Meanwhile, the state attorney general's office continues its investigation, which is divided into three phases conducted by the Fire Safety Research Institute.
A timeline report was published in April, with the second phase, focusing on state and county fire response, expected by the end of summer.
The final phase will propose future recommendations.
The county is also working to secure a new contractor for an after-action report on the Maui Emergency Management Agency.
Earlier this year, both the Maui Police Department and Maui Fire Department completed their own after-action reviews.
