Dr. Ronald Black, a family medicine provider at Queen's Island Urgent Care, joined Wake Up 2Day to discuss the details.

"Every time your body loses more fluid than it requires, you have dehydration," Dr. Black said.

The most common causes of dehydration include excessive sweating, heat exertion, exercise, medications that cause water loss or various medical conditions.

Early indications that can lead to dehydration include a dry mouth and a dull, mild headache. More significant symptoms may include lightheadedness, dizziness, fatigue and weakness, which can happen suddenly.

Those who begin to feel tired, confused or disoriented or experience a fast heart rate should seek medical attention immediately.

Replacement of fluids is key to avoiding dehydration orally or through an IV treatment.
