Windward showers increasing slightly through Friday

HONOLULU (KHON2) -- The stable cloud cover upstream is breaking apart, and as a result, cloud clusters are encountering a slightly less stable environment over the islands. This has led to a slight increase in trade wind showers over the past 12 hours. The stable clouds approaching Hawaii will become thicker, leading to more widespread showers and increased rainfall in windward and mauka areas this week. Some light rain may also reach leeward areas, especially overnight.

The remnants of Tropical Storm Emilia are expected to affect the northernmost islands, Oahu and Kauai, from Wednesday to Thursday, causing another increase in trade wind showers. High moisture levels at the lowest levels will likely lead to wetter conditions for Kauai and Oahu late Wednesday and Thursday.

Trade winds will remain breezy throughout the period but will temporarily ease to moderate levels as Emilia's remnant trough moves north of the area mid-week.
