Legendary voyaging canoe takes to the sea today

HONOLULU (KHON2) -- Legendary voyaging canoe Hokulea is ready to set sail on the sea after a one-day delay due to weather halted the crew from embarking on their journey.

Hokulea is now expected to depart from Sand Island on Oahu Friday, 1 p.m. and sail to Hanalei on Kauai.

Hanalei is the first stop on Hokulea's Pae Aina Statewide Sail.

While there, the crew will host canoe tours and activities for schools and the community.

A current itinerary can be found below:

Hanalei Arrival at Hanalei Pier

Sat, Aug 17, approximately 10am

Hōkūleʻa Dockside Canoe Tours at Hanalei Pier

Sat, Aug 17, 2-5pm

Sun Aug 18, 10am-Noon and 1-4pm 

Mon-Wed (Aug 19-21), 4-7pm 

*Mon-Thurs, 9am-Noon reserved for school tours

Nāwiliwili Arrival at Nāwiliwili Small Boat Harbor 

Sat, Aug 24, approximately 10am

Hōkūleʻa Dockside Canoe Tours at Nāwiliwili Harbor

Sat, Aug 24, Noon-4:30pm

Sun, Aug 25, 10am -Noon and 1-4pm

Mon-Thurs, (Aug 26-29), 4-7pm  

*Mon-Thurs, 9am-Noon reserved for school tours
