HONOLULU (KHON2) -- The Maui Police Department (MPD) is alerting residents to an ongoing scam involving individuals posing as police representatives.
The scammers are using caller ID spoofing to make their calls appear as though they are coming from the MPD. They inform their victims of alleged warrants, missed jury duties, or other legal issues, demanding immediate payment.
MPD warns that they never address warrants or legal matters over the phone and will never ask for payment.
Residents are advised to report such calls to the FBI.
