HANALEI, Hawaii (KHON2) -- Hōkūleʻa arrived at Hanalei Pier in Kauaʻi at around 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, completing a 21-hour voyage from Sand Island.
Over 100 people gathered at the pier and welcomed the canoe and its crew, including original Hōkūleʻa crew member from Kauaʻi John Kruse, along with keiki and hula halau.
Hanalei is the first destination on the Pae ‘Āina Statewide Sail.
During its two-week stay in Hanalei and Nāwiliwili, Hōkūleʻa crew will offer canoe tours and activities for local students and the community.
