According to KPD, the "law enforcement officer" calls victims and tells them there is a warrant out for their arrest. If they would like to avoid being arrested, the victim should pay their fine with cryptocurrency.

Reports said scammers are using the victim's real information to increase their credibility over the phone.

KPD also said the phone number on caller ID may also be manipulated to trick victim's into believing the call is coming from a government agency.

Any such calls should be treated with suspicion. Refrain from disclosing your credit card details or any personal information. It's crucial to report such incidents to the Kaua‘i Police Department and remember that law enforcement agencies will never call you to demand payment of any kind.
