MANOA, Hawaii (KHON2) -- The fall semester is ramping up at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Wakeup2day's Chris Latronic visited the campus with details on move-in and other events happening this week.
UH Spokesman Marc Arakaki and UH Spokeswoman Moanikeala Nabarro discussed the anticipation of the week and how a new check-in process that was implemented last year is helping.
David Akana, the UH Manoa student housing director, explained how this new process was implemented and how it helped greatly reduce traffic.
Incoming student residents gathered at the SimpliFi Arena at the Stan Sheriff Center to check in, receive their room key, student ID, room information and explore campus resources including employment, leadership and financial aid opportunities.
As part of the move-in process launched in 2023, students could utilize the two-way shuttle service or drive to the residence halls from Zone 20 to reduce traffic congestion. More than 3,500 student residents are moving into residence halls this week before the fall 2024 semester.
There has also been a plethora of renovation and improvement projects that were just completed including the iconic Bachman Hall.
Many notable dormitory improvements involve the Hale Aloha Towers, which received new mattresses, decor, common-room updates and micro-fridges, which are now included in all of the rooms and or suite areas residence halls except the Hale Wainani Apartments.
Craig Angelos, the UH Manoa Athletic Director also discussed his first year in his position and the excitement as we approach the first Rainbow Warrior Football game of the season.
Angelos also shared his optimism for the schedule ahead and how the new NIL shop will help student-athletes.
