HONOLULU (KHON2) -- The director of Maui's Office of Economic Development, Luana Mahi, has been placed on leave.
The county stated she will continue to receive pay while an investigation is conducted.
The decision follows an internal audit of grants managed by her office, conducted by the Finance Department in March after concerns were raised to Mayor Richard Bissen.
In response to the audit's findings, Mayor Bissen has mandated that future grants undergo additional review.
He has also introduced mandatory ethics training for all county deputy directors and directors, and reminded all county officials of the commitment to maintaining ethical standards.
