HONOLULU (KHON2) -- The City and County of Honolulu announced that the Sharks Cove parking lot at Pupukea Beach Park has reopened ahead of schedule following emergency repairs to a damaged retaining wall.
The project, which started on July 29, was initially set to wrap up by November 25, but was completed ahead of time on August 27.

The repair work focused on strengthening a crumbling section of the dry-stacked rock wall.
The project involved reinforcing the wall with new rocks and mortar, which supports the park's access road used by both vehicles and pedestrians.
Additional work included backfilling, compacting, paving with asphalt, and painting parking lines.
These improvements are designed to boost the area's stability and guard against future erosion.
The park's access road and the Waimea Bay-side parking lot reopened to the public onAugust 26, after a final inspection.
However, the Kahuku-side parking lot will remain closed until crews finish striping, which is expected to be completed later this week, weather permitting.
