HONOLULU (KHON2) -- The latest hurricane center forecasts show that tropical cyclones Gilma and Hector are weakening as they move closer. This means the PRIMARY impact on the islands will likely be rain rather than strong winds. However, there’s still some uncertainty about how long these systems will last, which affects rainfall rates for each island.
Expect rainfall similar to a typical wet trade wind pattern with a small chance of flash flooding. Rainfall amounts will vary depending on slight changes in the storm paths: a shift north means less rain, while a shift south brings more rain.
High pressure is expected to build over the state early next week, bringing breezy trade winds and drier conditions. This will likely lead to brief showers mainly at night or in the early morning, especially along windward and mountain areas.
