HONOLULU (KHON2) -- A 47-year-old woman, her 7-year-old daughter, and their pets have been rescued from their sailboat 925 miles off Oahu after a distress call was received by the U.S. Coast Guard.
On Saturday afternoon, the Coast Guard received a mayday call from the sailboat located east of Honolulu.
Upon arrival, rescuers discovered that the vessel had been damaged by severe weather.
Along with the woman and child, crews found a deceased man aboard the boat.
With assistance from the U.S. Navy, the rescue operation successfully brought the woman, her daughter, a cat, and a tortoise to safety on Sunday afternoon.
However, due to adverse weather conditions, crews were unable to recover the body of the deceased man.
The sailboat remains adrift in the ocean.
