1,200 acre brush fire no threat to Kauai homes, structures

KOKEE, Hawaii (KHON2) -- Officials, as well as private industry professionals, are battling a blaze that has scorched an estimated 1,200 acres of land in Kōkeʻe.

The County of Kauaiʻs latest update said Air 1, Air 2 and private helicopters are dumping water on the brush fire near Waimea Canyon Drive, which is closed from mile-marker 2 to the junction at Kōkeʻe Road.

DLNRʻs Department of Forestry and Wildlife are fighting the fire with support from the Kauai Fire Department and Public Works.

The fire apparently started early Thursday morning, with initial reports coming in after 2:50 a.m.

There are no reported injuries and the fire is not threatening any homes or structures at this time.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
