KAPAA, Hawaii (KHON2) -- A building on Kauai suffered about $1.2 million in damage due to an evening fire on Monday.
The incident began just before 10 p.m. after a two-story structure fire engulfed in flames was reported on Ulu Street in Kapaa.
Fire officials from Kapaa, Koloa, Lihue and Kaiakea fire stations, the Kauai Island Utility Cooperative, the Fire Prevention Bureau and others reported to the scene and assisted with firefighting efforts.
The KIUC shut off electrical utilities while first responders battled the flames.
Firefighters were able to control the flames before fully extinguishing the fire on Tuesday. The scene was cleared shortly after 1:15 a.m.
KPD Fire Prevention Bureau investigators then took over the scene to conduct an investigation. No injuries have been reported.
While the cause of the fire has yet to be determined, officials have closed Ulu Street from Kukui Street to Koa Street due to the unstable structure.
