Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children released the following statement:

We are pleased to reach a tentative agreement with the Hawai‘i Nurses’ Association. This agreement reflects a year of negotiating, listening to our nurses and incorporating their priorities into this contract. As we await the voting results, we look forward to the day our nurses return to the bedside to care for our patients.

Gidget Ruscetta, COO of Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children

The announcement was made more than two weeks after union nurses were locked out of the hospital for participating in a one-day strike.

Nurses were fighting for improved working conditions and a better patient-to-nurse ratio to provide adequate care.

The tentative agreement also comes just days after a federal mediator joined negotiations to help facilitate discussions.

KHON2 has reached out to the Hawaii Nurses' Association for comment but have not heard back.

This is a developing story. More information will be released as details become available.
