Most people may remember the movie "Freaky Friday," starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan.
There’s also "Freaky Friday the Musical" that is making its Hawaii debut at Mo’olelo Performing Arts Studios, in partnership with Sacred Hearts Academy.
The popular musical is about a mother and daughter, Katherine and Ellie, who magically and inadvertently switch bodies for a day.
The story takes place over the course of one chaotic and mysterious freaky Friday, as Katherine and Ellie experience life from each other’s perspectives.
What follows is a valuable lesson in understanding, empathy and the importance of family.
"Freaky Friday the Musical" features Tori Anguay De La Cruz as Katherine Blake, Caris Leong as Ellie Blake, Sammy Houghtailing as Adam, Royce Caracol as Fletcher Blake, Poasa Aga as Mike, and Sage Nguyen as Torrey, in addition to local performers and students.
The Mo’olelo production also features state of the art technology and special effects.
The show is headed by veteran director Kyle Kakuno with technical direction by Kainoa Jarrett, musical direction by Judy Yoshioka, choreography by Ku’ulei Kekoa, set design by Nigyl Nissan, lighting design by Richard Powersurge, audio design/engineer Steve Nelson.
"Freaky Friday the Musical" opened on Friday, Sept. 27 and closes this weekend with performances on Oct. 4 at 7 p.m. and Oct. 5 and 6 at 2 p.m.
All shows are at Mamiya Theatre on the campus of St. Louis High School and Chaminade University in Kaimuki.
