HONOLULU (KHON2) -- Duke’s Waikiki is set to host its annual ukulele competition, Duke’s Ukes, at Kahala Mall’s center stage on October 12 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The event will feature young ukulele players from across the island competing in four divisions: Keiki Instrumental, Keiki Instrumental with Vocals, Youth Instrumental, and Youth Instrumental with Vocals.
“We’re thrilled to bring Duke’s Ukes back to Kahala Mall for the second year in a row,” said Duke’s Waikiki General Manager Drew Crocker. “We’re proud to provide a platform for our young, local musicians to showcase their incredible talents, and we’re grateful for the support from KoAloha Ukulele, Kamaka Ukulele, Kahala Mall, and the entire community.”
Contestants were chosen from video submissions received during the audition period from September 2 to 19.
Performers will receive feedback from a panel of notable ukulele professionals.
First-place winners in each category will receive a koa ukulele, generously sponsored by KoAloha Ukulele and Kamaka Ukulele, along with an opportunity to perform at Duke’s Waikiki restaurant.
Attendees can enjoy live performances, win exciting door prizes, and support Hawaii’s young musicians.
Duke’s Ukes was first held in 2006 to celebrate the beloved ukulele and foster community spirit.
For nearly 20 years, the event has been an integral part of Duke’s Waikiki’s commitment to giving back to the community and supporting amateur ukulele players.
