MANOA, Hawaii (KHON2) -- Manoa residents looking to swim laps in the 50-meter pool at Manoa Valley District Park will need to wait until next year to do so.
The City and County of Honolulu announced that the pool is expected to be completed and reopened to the public by Spring 2025.
In early September, park staff conducted a thorough chlorination process to tackle an algae problem. As they scrubbed, they discovered another safety concern.
Crews closed the pool shortly after to begin an intensive cleaning process to remove damaged plaster that began chipping and creating sharp edges.
Maintenance workers and on-site park staff are expected to demolish the deteriorating surfaces in late October. Once the work is completed, the pool can then be resurfaced.
The entire resurfacing project will include resealing and repainting the pool. Work is estimated to take several months to complete.
According to the City, the pool can reopen earlier if work is completed sooner.
We appreciate the patience of the pool users and general public as this popular park facility is closed for repair. We very much understand the significance facilities such as this pool play in the recreational and social fabric of the community.

In the meantime, swimmers are encouraged to visit Palolo Valley District Park, McCully District Park and Kanewai Community Park to get their early morning workout in or just to have fun.
