UKUMEHAME, Hawaii (KHON2) -- Cleanup efforts are about to be underway in Maui on a 5-acre piece of parcel.
Officials said the County-owned land will undergo a three-day transformation starting on Wednesday, Oct. 23.
The County plans to remove trash, invasive trees and abandoned vehicles in Ukumehame in collaboration with Malama Maui Nui and Kane's Legacy Tree Services.
Prior to the start of the project, the County consulted with wetland experts, archaeologists and cultural practitioners to ensure the best practices to preserve the land.
In addition, officials said water quality testing is being done by the University of Hawaii Maui College.
If you are looking for a volunteer opportunity, Malama Maui Nui is still looking for additional volunteers for cleanup efforts.
