IAO VALLEY, Hawaii (KHON2) -- Following recent wet weather on all islands, two individuals were rescued from the dangers of flash floods in Iao Valley.
Shortly before 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 27, Maui Fire Department responded to a swift water rescue incident after they received reports of a man being swept away in rapidly rising waters.
Officials said he was swept downstream and across the river. Rescue 10 firefighters located and lifted the man from the river shortly after.
While responding to the first incident, crews were informed a second individual, a juvenile female, was stranded in a different location.
Rescue 10 and Engine 1 firefighters headed to the opposite bank where she was last seen and conducted a search.
Officials said one firefighter crossed the water and handed her a personal flotation device. She secured herself before being brought back across using a rope system.
No injuries were reported.
The area remains under Flash Flood Watch by the National Weather Service and the Maui Emergency Management Agency.
