Fifteen inmates crossed the stage in their cap and gowns on Friday, Nov. 8 at the facility's Learning Center in front of more than 30 attendees. The event was themed "Success Against All Odds."

Graduates earned their diplomas by passing four exams in reading/language arts, math, science and social studies with a minimum score of 145.

Today was big for me. It was good. It was amazing. I put a lot of work and effort into this. This makes me feel really good. It really does. It makes me feel like I can do so much good in my life.

The Department of Education's McKinley Community School for Adults, Moanalua Campus Principal Helen Sanpei and Vice Principal Lance Jyo handed out their diplomas.

According to DCR Corrections Education Program Manager Roseanne Propato, the graduates have shown dedication, patience and belief in their potential to accomplish their goals.

"An education opens doors to so many things, from employment opportunities to college, the opportunities are limitless," said HCF Warden Shannon Cluney. “Congratulations to all of you. I look forward to your next accomplishment and great things out of each and every one of you."
