HONOLULU (KHON2) -- Four-legged friends who belong to Oahu's houseless individuals are getting extra help and attention thanks to the Oahu SPCA.
According to the organization, medical care and other vital services are available for pets and their owners experiencing homelessness.
The initiative comes after a woman lost her home in a building fire and needed help for herself and her two dogs.
"If we weren't there to help, then she wouldn't have had an option of being able to go to the vet or afford that care. So we provided that for her," said Adrian Preciado, Oahu SPCA Executive Director.
The Oahu SPCA helped provide free medical care for the dogs which included health checks, vaccinations and preventative medicine to help with recovery.
"We also have a few other houseless families in the area, like the one that this puppy came from. With cost of vet care, cost of vaccinations, cost of spay and neuter, it can be very expensive," Preciado added.
Officials said puppies that have been recently surrendered are ready to be adopted at just eight weeks old.
