PUPUKEA, Hawaii (KHON2) -- Multiple first responder agencies were called to rescue a group of snorkelers from Three Tables Beach off Oahu's North Shore.
The incident came in around 3:20 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 11 when the Honolulu Fire Department received a report where a 29-year-old male snorkeled was separated from his friends after being caught in large surf.
Upon arrival at the scene, HFD and Ocean Safety conducted water searches throughout the area.
Officials said Ocean Safety rescued one male and one female; both suffered lacerations. Paramedics evaluated both patients, who later declined transport to a hospital.
According to EMS, the third snorkeler, who is possibly in his 20s, was found just after 4:30 p.m. and received CPR and life support treatment from first responders upon arriving at shore.
The man was then hospitalized in critical condition.
EMS said strong current, no swimming and no lifeguard on-duty signs were posted at the beach. During the time of the rescues, the surf was between six to 10 feet and was said to be building.
