AIEA, Hawaii (KHON2) -- A tree from Aiea has been selected to be the centerpiece of this year's 2024 Honolulu City Lights.
According to the City and County of Honolulu, a 55-foot Cook Pine tree was harvested from a home on Kaahele Street.
The City Lights tree must be that tall for the specific decoration set officials have planned for it.
Crews began harvesting the tree around 10 a.m. on Tuesday.
"A lot of times, we try to source Honolulu City Lights trees and Kapolei City Lights trees from park locations but on occasion, we get them from private donors," explained Nate Serota from the Department of Parks and Recreation. "It's really a fantastic way for them to be part of the holiday."
The Honolulu City Lights kicks off on Dec. 7.
