HONOLULU (KHON2) -- Oahu experienced its 14th traffic fatality of 2024 after a juvenile motorcyclist died in a crash on Kalanianaole Highway.
The call came in around 1:30 p.m. when it was reported that the male motorcyclist was traveling southbound on the highway "at a high rate of speed when he traveled over a speed hump, lost control" and was thrown into a guardrail.
HDOT closed Kalanianaole Highway in both directions at Ulupii Street around 2:40 p.m. due to the investigation.
Honolulu EMS transported the motorcyclist to an area hospital in critical condition. He later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
According to HPD, the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet at the time of the incident.
