HONOLULU (KHON2) -- In preparation for fire weather, Hawaiian Electric is warning residents of the possibility of power shutoffs if necessary.
According to the NWS, "A slot of drier air moving in on Friday could bring critical fire weather conditions to portions of the state."
A fire weather watch will be in place Friday.
HECO said they will continue to monitor the conditions and implement their Public Safety Power Shutoff program in leeward areas of the islands, which are communities with high exposure to wildfire risk.
The shutoffs could come within 24 hours.
Maps of the areas that have high wildfire risk can be seen on the Hawaiian Electric website or more information can be obtained by calling the PSPS hotline at (844) 483-8666.
