HPD said they first noticed communication problems around 10:38 a.m. when they could not connect with the Honolulu Fire Department, Honolulu Emergency Medical Services and Ocean Safety.

As the morning progressed, there were issues with receiving 911 calls from major cell providers such as AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile.

HPD then resulted in their backup contingency plan and their trunk line. Both were not working at the time.

The City and County issued a wireless emergency alert around 2 p.m. announcing an alternative number to call for emergencies.

Customers were advised to use a landline to call 911.

The Department of Emergency Management sent out an alert cancellation around 3:15 a.m. after service was restored.
