HONOLULU (KHON2) -- The power outage that affected a large portion of downtown on Monday continues to affect 600 customers in Chinatown and HECO said it may take until Thursday to restore power in the area.
Power was restored on Tuesday for the large portion of customers after it was found that a fire had damaged underground cables.
HECO said a crew of more than 50 are working to identify, remove and replace the remaining cables and ducts that were found to have melted and fused.
The estimated time of restoration is now midnight but HECO warns that if additional challenges are found, the restoration time could be pushed into Thursday.
