HONOLULU (KHON2) -- A stable and breezy trade wind flow continues, driven by strong high pressure 800 to 900 miles north. A narrow band of showers is causing modest showers over windward areas this evening, with scattered showers on the South Kona slopes. Rainfall is expected to decrease later tonight as a dry air slot moves in.
Winds will briefly increase on Friday as the high to the north strengthens slightly, potentially causing borderline Wind Advisory conditions in typically windy areas like the Maui Central Valley, parts of west Maui, the Kohala Districts, the Humuula Saddle, Kau, and parts of the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. After a dry morning, another band of moisture will bring more windward rainfall.
This weekend into early next week, breezy trade winds and typical summertime rainfall will prevail. Modest showers will focus on windward areas, mainly at night and in the morning. Leeward areas will remain mostly dry, except for afternoon and evening showers over the Kona slopes of the Big Island. Trade winds are expected to moderate by Tuesday or Wednesday as the high to the north weakens and shifts eastward.
