HONOLULU (KHON2) -- The Girl Scouts of the USA has announced the 2024 recipients of its prestigious GSUSA Gold Award Scholarships.
Among this year’s honorees is Nikayla C., a recent graduate of Kaiser High School, who has been awarded $5,000 for her exceptional Gold Award project.
This project not only showcased Nikayla’s outstanding leadership but also made a significant impact through community service.

The GSUSA Gold Award Scholarship acknowledges one exceptional Gold Award Girl Scout per council. Recipients are recognized for projects that embody the key principles of the Gold Award:
- Addressing the root cause of an issue:
- Nikayla’s Gold Award project, titled “Kaiser High School's Guide to Teenage Wellness,” focused on mental health issues, aiming to combat the stigma surrounding mental illnesses.
- Having a national and/or global reach:
- Her initiative extended beyond her school community, aiming to create a global impact on attitudes towards mental health.
- Demonstrating leadership:
- Nikayla demonstrated exemplary leadership by developing a comprehensive curriculum on mental health for Kaiser High School students, including informative lessons, reference materials, and links to relevant resources.
- Creating a sustainable and measurable impact:
- Her project has been made accessible to various organizations, ensuring its sustainability and continuing to benefit future generations.
Nikayla’s initiative, “Kaiser High School's Guide to Teenage Wellness,” was designed to foster an open and non-judgmental environment where students could freely discuss mental health.
By addressing the root causes of mental health issues and creating a sustainable educational resource, Nikayla’s project exemplifies the core values of the GSUSA Gold Award.
