HONOLULU (KHON2) -- In a bid to bridge the digital divide, Maui County residents facing financial hardship will have the chance to receive refurbished laptops at no cost, courtesy of a collaborative effort involving AT&T, Human-I-T, and Maui Economic Opportunity.
Starting at 4 p.m. on Friday, June 21, 50 laptops equipped with Windows operating systems will be up for grabs on a first-come, first-served basis.
The initiative targets individuals and families earning up to 300% of the poverty line, which translates to $107,640 annually for a family of four.
To qualify, applicants must not have received a laptop from an MEO-sponsored program in the past two-years.
Applications will be accepted until 4 p.m. on Friday, July 12.
Interested individuals must complete the entire application process and provide proof of income, which must be uploaded during submission.
Incomplete applications will not be considered.
Online applications are accessible via this form or through MEO’s website by clicking on the AT&T and MEO Digital Equity Program link.
Physical application forms can also be obtained from MEO offices.
Offices are open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., excluding holidays.
AT&T and Human-I-T are supplying the refurbished laptops, while MEO is facilitating their distribution.
Human-I-T specializes in refurbishing electronic devices and providing internet access and digital skills training, partnering with businesses and organizations to empower underserved communities.
This initiative marks a continuation of efforts by AT&T, Human-I-T, and MEO, who previously collaborated to distribute 45 laptops late last year.
