Court documents revealed the incident began around 11:15 a.m. when the driver of a 2023 black Toyota Tacoma was heading westbound on Farrington Highway to deliver groceries before 26-year-old Josiah Weiland-Vierra pulled up on his right side in a blue, four-door sedan.

According to the Tacoma driver, Weiland-Vierra rolled down his window and asked for money. When the driver said he did not have any, Weiland-Vierra allegedly pointed a gun and demanded the victim pull over.

The victim and suspect then pulled into a shopping center parking lot where Weilandvierra demanded $200, his phone and the keys to the Toyota.

Reports said the victim went inside a store to withdraw the money but when he returned, Weilandvierra and the Tacoma were gone.

Dispatch reported the incident to the entire District.

About 15 minutes later, an officer spotted the Tacoma that matched the description speeding westbound on Paakea Road.

The officer continued following the Tacoma to the intersection of Mailiili Road and Farrington Highway. When he turned on his lights and siren to conduct a traffic stop, the Tacoma sped away.

The documents said another officer also responded to the incident, following the suspect eastbound on Farrington Highway. As she was following the Tacoma, the driver stopped the vehicle and reversed into the front side of her police car.

An HPD helicopter then followed the Tacoma to the intersection of Kahekili Highway and Kahuhipa Street.

The driver then exited the truck with an object that resembled a handgun and approached multiple other cars with the object.
