HONOLULU (KHON2) -- In the aftermath of two major power outages striking Chinatown and parts of downtown last week, HECO has urged affected residents to file claims for any devices they suspect were damaged during the disruptions.
Residents affected by the recent power outages are now seeking clarification on the potential reimbursement for damages and losses from HECO.
A filing made on Monday shows HECO's annual Damage Claim Information report with the Public Utilities Commission. The report states the following:
On Oahu - Only 69 out of 671 claims were paid a total of $215,000
528 were closed unpaid
Big Island - Only 2 out of 210 claims were paid a total of nearly $14,000
42 were closed unpaid
Maui - Only 20 out of 107 were paid a total of $24,000
79 were closed unpaid
A note indicates that unpaid closed claims were either denied, withdrawn, or closed due to lack of response.
