HONOLULU (KHON2) -- Honoluluʻs Daniel K. Inouye International Airport is currently a bustle of visitors arriving for their summer vacations.
Locals are looking to escape work and responsibilities, heading out for a vacation in different climes.
For those looking to park their vehicles at the airport, it is about to get more expensive starting on July 1 but not by much.
The DOT said the hourly rate for three or more hours in the parking lot will increase by $1 each hour with the daily rate rising to $25, an increase of $1 from the current rate of $24.
The cell phone lots will remain free and the grace period of 15 minutes remains in place.
"By pricing overnight and multiple-day parking appropriately, the Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation expects the additional benefit of reduced demand for overnight and multiple-day parking," the DOT said in a news release.
Incremental price increases, according to the current DOT chart, will be implemented each year, on July 1, until it reaches $30 in 2027.
The additional funds will go to support parking improvements.
