HONOLULU (KHON2) -- Breezy to windy trade winds will continue into next week, driven by a strong surface high well north of the islands. These trades will bring brief showers primarily to windward areas, while leeward regions should remain mostly dry. Along the Kona slopes, typical summertime afternoon and evening clouds and showers are expected.

A strong northeast to east wind flow is being maintained by an upper-level high moving westward east of the Hawaii and another high to the north. This setup is driving strong winds to the Big Island Summits, where a Wind Advisory is currently in effect. Winds at the summits will gradually decrease by Thursday. The gusty trade winds, combined with Hawaii's mountains, could result in increased shower activity for windward areas from Thursday night through Friday night .
