HONOLULU (KHON2) -- Visiting Hawaiʻi on holiday is an exciting adventure, and dressing appropriately can make your trip even more enjoyable.
Here's a fun and informative guide to help you pack the perfect wardrobe for your Hawaiʻi holiday.
Lightweight clothing
Hawaiʻi is warm and sunny, so pack lightweight and breathable clothes.
Think cotton t-shirts, tank tops, and shorts. These materials will keep you cool and comfortable.
"Wearing light, airy clothes helps you stay cool in Hawaiʻi’s tropical climate," said local resident Sara Miko.
Swimwear
Don't forget your swimsuits! Whether you’re hitting the beach, snorkeling, or lounging by the pool, you'll want at least two swimsuits.
This way, you always have a dry one ready to go. A cover-up or rash guard is also a good idea for sun protection when you’re not in the water.
"I wear my swimsuit under my regular clothes all the time, just in case..." said Miko.
Comfortable footwear
Slippers, or slippahs as locals say, are also known as flip-flops; sandals; and water shoes are a must for Hawaiʻi.
They’re easy to slip on and off, perfect for beach days or casual strolls. If you plan to hike, bring a pair of sturdy hiking shoes.
"Comfortable shoes make exploring Hawaiʻi’s beautiful landscapes much more enjoyable," Miko advised.
Sun protection
The Hawaiian sun is strong, so pack a wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, and plenty of sunscreen.
"Protecting yourself from the sun is crucial to avoid sunburn and stay safe while enjoying outdoor activities," Miko reminded visitors.
Evening wear
For dining out or attending special events, casual yet chic outfits are perfect. A nice sundress for women and a button-down shirt with khaki shorts for men will do the trick.
Hawaiʻi-themed attire, like an aloha shirt, adds a fun local touch to your evening wear.
Rain gear
Hawaiʻi’s weather can be unpredictable, so pack a lightweight rain jacket or poncho. It’s handy for sudden showers, especially if you’re exploring the islands.
Remember, the key to enjoying your Hawaiʻi holiday is comfort and protection from the sun. Follow these tips, and you'll be ready to soak up the aloha spirit in style!
