KAHULUI, Hawaii (KHON2) -- Runway 2/20 at Maui's Kahului Airport was temporarily closed after a Hawaiian Airlines flight overshot the runway.
Incoming interisland flights were redirected to Runway 5/23 while larger aircraft were diverted to the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport in Honolulu.
Flight HA24 from Maui to Oakland was also canceled due to the incident.
The runway has since been reopened, but officials from Hawaiian Airlines said flight HA29 "experienced an issue with its brakes upon arrival into OGG."
The flight coming in from Seattle carried 173 guests and six crew members with no reported injuries.
Hawaiian Airlines said pilots brought the aircraft to a complete stop on the runway surface. The plane was then towed to the gate for guests to deplane.
The aircraft will remain out of service for assessment.
We sincerely apologize to our guests and thank our crew for their professionalism.
