The coaching staff at the camp, in addition to Ross, will feature Saint Louis alumnus and Ewa Beach native Caleb Lomavita, a junior at Cal who is currently projected as a Day 1 selection in July's MLB Draft.
Another Saint Louis alumnus in former big league veteran Brandon League is also a featured member of the coaching staff.
Ross, an Oakland native, hopes to bring more camps to more cities that features hometown heroes.
“The community is everything for me," Ross told KHON2 sports director Rob DeMello. "Growing up, I had my local heroes that I looked up to and I never had a chance to share the same field with them or learn from them directly. But just knowing that there were guys like CC Sabathia, Jimmy Rollins, or Dontrelle Willis that came from the same area as me and looked like me was all the spark I needed with this program, bringing people back into the community.
“Caleb Lomavita is going to be out there. We'll have Brandon League coming back, a ten-year big league player. Guys like that on the field, sharing their love of the game with the next generation, that's what it's all about. We don't want everyone to go out there and be pro players, but there's a lot of value that comes from building community and sharing the field. Having shared experiences with people often leads to lifelong friendships and relationships.”
Loyal to My Soil is a charity located in the Bay Area that builds community through sport. Founded by MLB players Tyson and Joe Ross, Loyal to My Soil has hosted free camps and donated equipment, as well as participated in community outreach since 2021.
“It's going to be a lot of fun," Tyson Ross said. "It will be as technical as it needs to be for the advanced players and as basic as it needs to be for the youngest guys. We have a lot of fun, and yeah, come on out and support.”
The camp is set for Sunday, June 23, from 1 to 4 p.m. at Campbell High School. It is free of charge, but participants must register.
