"That’s right, as of Aug. 1, we’ve opened applications for five distinct programs that provide funding to local nonprofits and government agencies to partner with HTA to support our natural resources, culture, festivals, and signature events," Gionson said. "These HTA programs reflect our commitment to a regenerative model of tourism, where the economic benefits of tourism are directed back into community-based initiatives. We’re looking to support projects and events occurring in Hawai‘i from Jan. 1, 2025, to June 30, 2025. Another solicitation will be held in early 2025 for projects and events occurring from July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2026."

There are two programs, Kahu Aina, which Gionson says fosters community-based stewardship of Hawaii's natural resources, and Kukulu Ola, which enhances Hawaiian culture through authentic experiences.

"The Hookipa Malihini Initiative supports cultural practitioners and musicians in resort areas to provide authentic Hawaiian greetings and experiences. The Community Enrichment program offers unique, community-driven visitor experiences that locals are eager to share. Lastly, the Signature Events program backs major festivals and events with wide-reaching national and international audiences," Gionson said.
