HONOLULU (KHON2) -- Honolulu Fire Department officials have recovered a body while searching for a missing hiker at Makapuu Cliffs on Monday morning.
On Sunday, HFD responded to a missing hiker call around 8:03 p.m. after it was reported that a 17-year-old male was missing near Makapuu Lighthouse.
Fire officials first arrived on the scene around 8:19 p.m. and began searching the trail by land and in the air.
After nearly three hours, the search was suspended at 11:10 p.m. and was set to resume the following morning.
Both HPD and HFD returned to Makpuu on Monday morning to continue the search. While searching for the missing hiker, officials recovered a body on the Makapuu Cliffs.
At 8:17 a.m. HFD said personnel rappelled down the side of the cliffs to find the body on the Makapuu Beach side.
Shortly after, the body was secured and lifted to a nearby landing zone.
